A Hearty Breakfast

This morning, I was up at the crack of dawn (for me!) — 7 a.m. to be exact—for my biennial heart check-up at St George’s Hospital. With the comforting thought that “no news is good news,” I left with a clean bill of health and decided to treat myself to a celebratory breakfast. As I strolled towards Tooting Broadway, I couldn’t resist being drawn into a charming café, Tartine Artisanal.

From the moment I stepped inside, I was warmly welcomed and shown to a seat. As I scanned the menu and took in the cosy ambiance, I initially thought I had walked into a traditional Parisian style café. But something about the décor and the menu hinted at a deeper story, possibly an Algerian influence—perhaps a nod to Algeria’s history as a French colony. This intriguing blend of cultures only added to the café’s charm.

I opted for a double espresso and a beautifully presented eggs benedict on toasted brioche. The meal was hearty, satisfying, and a perfect start to my day. I found myself wondering how I had managed to overlook Tartine Artisanal before. For those seeking a warm welcome, delicious breakfast, and the inviting atmosphere of a French-Algerian café, Tartine Artisanal is a must-visit. I know I’ll be returning next time I’m in the area and craving a breakfast to remember.
