Poros Appreciation Society: A Delightful Afternoon in Tooting

Saturday afternoon was very pleasantly spent meeting up with an old friend who Melanie and I first met on the Greek island of Poros. Tina, who, when not enjoying the sunshine on our favourite Greek island, lives not far from us in London.

We decided to meet at The Castle, a pub that has been an old haunt of mine for years. After some refreshment, we headed across the street to the famous Lahore Karahi. If you have never visited Tooting before, this gem of a restaurant is a must-try! Once seated in the Lahore Karahi you will find an eclectic mix of patrons, all relishing the authentic and mouth-watering flavours of Pakistani cuisine.

One of our go-to starters at the Lahore Karahi is their pakora—crispy, spicy bites made with onion and potato. Naturally, we ordered a plate to share, along with crunchy poppadoms and a variety of tangy chutneys for dipping. For the main course, we opted to share several dishes. I could not resist my favourite chicken bhuna, while Melanie and Tina went for the flavourful king prawn tikka masala and the rich, hearty lamb charsi karahi. Everything was served with perfectly cooked basmati rice and fluffy naan bread, a match made in food heaven.

The staff in Lahore Karahi are always friendly and their immaculate, and swift and this time was no exception.

As always, the food was superb, a perfect backdrop for spending the rest of the afternoon reminiscing about sun-soaked days on Poros, our beloved Greek island. It was a delicious reminder that while our hearts may belong to Poros, great company and food can be found just around the corner in Tooting.
